If my teaching diploma taught me anything, it was the importance of reflection. So when I saw this post over on Sweet Mama M’s Blog, I had to give it a go! I did have the best intentions to get this post up before 2015 ended but obviously I didn’t so whatevs, YOLO.
What did you do in 2015 that you’d never done before?
First question in and I’m struggling! Awesome start. Oh here’s a dumb one – got fake nails. I decided to treat myself towards the end of the year and I am obsessed with them! They’re starting to come to the end of their life span and I’m seriously contemplating making it a regular habit #treatyoself
Did you keep your New Years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I can’t quire remember if I had any New Years resolutions for this year which probably indicates that they weren’t very important or I didn’t achieve them. I will set some goals for next year which will be revealed in another blog post.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes! One of my closest friends gave birth a month ago today. She is the first of my close friends to have a baby so I am very excited!
Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother recently passed away. I had only met her once when I was about 10 so we weren’t emotionally close but bloodwise we were.
What countries did you visit?
None! 2015 was a very boring year travel wise but I hope to change this in 2016.
What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?
Travel and general adventures. 2015 was tight money-wise but with my new employment I’m hoping I can do a lot more travelling and adventuring (is that a word?).
What date from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory?
Mothers Day, for reasons that do not involve my Mother.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finally being offered a full-time job! It took over a year but I am confident it was worth the wait.
What was your biggest failure?
I initially wanted to get a full time job by the middle of the year so at the time I felt like a failure for not achieving that in that time-frame but I’ve got one now and everything’s all good.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not anything worth mentioning. Occasional shin splints, maybe?
What was the best thing you bought?
I didn’t really buy this but all the money I spent on moving house has been well worth it. It’s so amazing to have a house with room to walk around in and an outdoor area to hang my washing out and to have a dishwasher!
Where did most of your money go?
Probably onto my credit card. Even though I wasn’t in a great financial situation I was able to whack off half of my credit card debt so I’m pretty proud of that.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving into my new house! It was such a huge leap of faith but once I decided to do it, I was excited and to this day I’m happy that I took that leap.
What song/album will always remind you of 2015?
I am going to say Justin Bieber – Purpose. I was never a huge Justin Bieber fan but he has produced some cracker music this year.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier. Full of so much excitement and hope!
thinner or fatter? Thinner but not by much.
richer or poorer? Surprisingly, richer
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Probably exercise. I had so much free time I wish I’d used it to exercise to get myself in good shape and a good head space but I had my reasons why I didn’t and I’ll reflect, learn and grow from it.
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Worrying. About getting a job and about people in my life.
Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Probably my Mum. My constant source of advice, support and love.
How many one night stands in this last year?
Six. No I’m joking, none.
What was your favourite TV programme?
Oh gosh, so many. I think I’d have to go with Weeds. It was the one series I watched from beginning to end although I think it did become a force of habit towards the end as I started to really hate the main character.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I wouldn’t use the word hate but there are definitely people who my opinion of has changed.
What was the best book(s) you read?
The storyteller by Jodi Picoult. It may have been the only book I read this year but it was the first book to touch me the way it did.
What were your favourite films of this year?
The Martian is definitely up there. Hella different from the Chick Flicks I normally rate.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24 which fell on a Monday (or maybe Tuesday) but the weekends on either side were so busy with moving and prior engagements that I just went out for dinner and drunk Margaritas. It was blissful.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?
All over the place. I wear what I want and what I feel comfortable in which varies so much from day to day.
What kept you sane?
Exercise. There is nothing a good workout can’t fix (within reason).
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I’ma stick with Sweet Mama M on this one, Ryan Reynolds. I don’t know what it is about him but I love him.
What political issue stirred you the most?
I would say the flag change only because I think the money could have been better spent.
Who did you miss?
A good friend of mine.
Who was the best new person you met in 2015?
I really didn’t meet many new people in 2015 due to personal circumstances which really took a toll on me but I’m looking forward to rectifying this in 2016!
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015.
Always have faith in yourself. I am an intelligent and capable young adult and I need to remember that I can handle whatever is thrown at me.
2015, you were such a challenging year but you have taught me so much. I am glad you are over and I can move on. I’m so excited for the potential 2016 has and I can’t wait to make the most of it.
To my readers, thank you for the support you’ve given me in 2015. I hope 2016 brings you everything you want it to.
