My Christmas Wishlist

Christmas is just around the corner and I’ve spent so much time thinking/stressing about what to get everyone else, I’ve not even thought about what I want. When a friend of mine asked what was on my Christmas wishlist, I was stumped. I still am to a certain degree. I don’t feel comfortable having a lot of money spent on me, particularly on items which I consider “luxurious” or items which I won’t get a lot of use out of.

For example, a couple of cookbooks have caught my eye in recent months. I have seen great reviews of Everyday Delicious by Chelsea Winter and I also love the look of The Rugby Pantry by Daisy Dagg and Amber Vito (wives of All Blacks, Israel Dagg and Victor Vito). My problem with asking for either of those is that 9/10 I will make meat and veges for lunch and dinner which I am quite content with. So how often will I use these cookbooks? If I want to make something specific, I will google a recipe for it. Also, how many recipes will I use out of the book? Generally there is one or two recipes that will become my go to and the rest of the book goes to waste.

Of course there are certain things I need for the household such as a lawnmower and rake. But how boring are those things?! Particularly since I’m not the one who mows the lawn! I may be at an age where I don’t want toys and enjoy certain household items but certainly not items that will be used for chores that I don’t even do!

I have never had this problem with Christmas presents before and I don’t know where it’s suddenly emerged from. Perhaps its because I’ve been in the position that I’ve been able to buy anything I’ve wanted for myself throughout the year. Perhaps I’ve just become older a bit more “nonchalant” about it all.

I did end up telling the BF that I would like a prezzy card so I could buy clothes but what is Christmas if you don’t get a surprise or something to open? Half the fun of Christmas is poking and shaking the presents under the tree to guess what they are!

So I turn to you, people of the blogosphere. What is on your Christmas wishlist? What are you hoping to see under the Christmas tree on Christmas Day? Leave me a comment and inspire me of ideas to put on my own wishlist.

Ten fun facts about me*

I thought it might be a good idea to get some info on me up here so everyone knows a little bit more about the person behind the blog;

*facts may not actually be fun

  1. When I was five, I put red glitter glue on my left upper thigh when at a friends birthday party. Unfortunately, it never came off and it’s still there.
  2. I use to be over 100kg and lost 30kg. In full disclosure, I have gained about 5kg of it back but I’m still so proud of how far I’ve come.
  3. When I was younger, I wanted to be a singer. When I realised I wasn’t a good singer, I decided I wanted to be an actor. I gave up on that dream after 3rd form drama when I was too nervous to perform in front of my classmates.
  4. I’ve only ever been grounded once and that was for lying to my mum and telling her I caught the train to a friends house to stay the night when I actually stayed down the road at another friends house (because I missed the last train). She only found out because my brother saw a comment I posted on Bebo and told her.
  5. I worked at The Warehouse for five years.
  6. I was invited to join the Gifted and Talented class in my 4th form year but I turned it down because I didn’t want to do the science fair. It’s a big regret of mine.
  7. I had a dream of moving to London to work and using my weekends to travel around Europe. It’s still something I’d love to do but it seems to get even more daunting with the more time that passes.
  8. I’ve only ever broken one bone. I was at afterschool care and a group of us were playing on one of those flying foxes that you reach above you, hold on and swing across. We were pushing it out and seeing how far we could jump and grab it. I pushed it out over half way, jumped for it, grabbed it, lost my grip and fell onto my left arm. Everyone thought I was being dramatic and it wasn’t until 11pm at night I was taken to the hospital for an X-Ray.
  9. I can’t whistle.
  10. I’m the type of person who will watch movies over and over again. Some of my favourites have been: The Brady Bunch. Bring it on. Mean girls. Happy Gilmore. Benchwarmers.

Well I hope you had as much fun reading those as I did writing them! Leave me a fun fact in the comments so I learn something about you.

Jumping back on the blogging bandwagon

I’ve been contemplating starting a blog for a wee while now. I’ve had many in the past but none of them seem to grow with me and get abandoned throughout the journey of life. At least that’s what I tell myself to justify letting them go. It’s been a tough decision to get back on the blogging bandwagon as I wasn’t sure what my area of expertise was. I’ve seen a lot of blogging experts state that it’s crucial to have a niche for your blogging. Nothing too narrow, but nothing too broad either. I enjoy health and fitness, beauty and fashion and cooking, but would I find myself able to focus on any one of these topics? No, I don’t think so.

But then I realised that it doesn’t really matter what these so called experts claim a blog should be. I’m sure somebody told Steve Jobs that the iPhone was never going to be a success and look at it now! Is that an actual fact? I don’t know. Is it even a comparable situation? Probably not. But I’m going to roll with it anyway. Some may call me stupid. Others may call me an innovator. I’ll let you decide.

I envision this blog as a place to write about anything worth writing about in my life. Whether it be a cool new product I’ve found or a recipe I love. It’s about all the things I find interesting as a female in my early 20s. The tagline reflects the fact that I can be quite lazy in a lot of the things I do. I love to cook, do my make up and exercise but generally speaking, I like to get them over and done with as quickly as possible. I actually like to call this trait efficient but The efficient girls guide to her 20s didn’t quite have the same ring to it.

I may not know my exact niche for this blog. But I do know what I want to get out of it. Firstly, a place to reflect on the journey of life. I’m the type of person who gains a lot by putting my thoughts into words. Whether it be speaking them aloud or writing them down, it helps me to sort my thoughts and clarify what is going through my mind. Secondly, I hope that by sharing these thoughts with whoever chooses to read them, they gain something from it. Whether it be entertainment, knowledge or inspiration. I hope that it enhances even one persons life in some way.

Blogging is an exciting journey and I’m excited to be back in the world. Here’s to the posts that are entertaining to read, pictures that are exciting to look at and topics that are challenging to write.

Let the blogging journey begin!
